Dearest readers,

In this 10th edition of Up the Staircase, we are featuring the poetry of Heather Ann Schmidt, a writer out of Michigan, who inspired us with her clean, yet highly emotionally charged work.  Heather's poetry is elegant, yet still cuts straight to the bone.  Please be sure to check out her work on our main page.

We would like to thank everyone who responded to our last challenge.  The mission was to write a flash fiction piece inspired by a staircase.  It was our most successful challenge yet, with a very large amount of submissions!   The winners and their work are showcased on the challenge page, along with the guidelines for our newest challenge.

Issue 10 of UTS also includes a new feature called The Book Shelf.  This page showcases the books of past contributors and friends of UTS.  The Book Shelf has the latest books by Jason Hardung, Frank Reardon, Gillian Prew, Jennifer LeBlanc, June Nandy, Nanette Rayman Rivera, and Elo-Moll Toomet.

And finally, the editors are pleased to ascertain that this latest issue of Up the Staircase features the same caliber of great talent in poetry and fiction that our previous issues have offered. We are delighted to bring these works to print, and we hope that our readers will take pleasure, thought, and appreciation in these exceptional writers' words.
