Asem Moustafa Ahmed

Asem Moustafa Ahmed is a Moroccan-born artist based in New Jersey and New York City. Born in Marrakesh and raised in the United States since 2000, he earned his MFA from the New York Academy of Art (2022), his BFA from New Jersey City University (2016), and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

His work draws inspiration from the Renaissance, the French academic tradition, and his Moroccan and Egyptian roots. Working across portraiture, still life, landscape, and the human figure, Asem emphasizes drawing as the foundation of his practice, using bold color and refined line to bring vitality to his paintings.

Asem’s work has been recognized with awards such as the 2024 Painting Fellowship Finalist from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the 2023 Art Renewal Center Still Life Finalist, and the Presidential Award from the New York Academy of Art (2022). He has exhibited in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., including recent shows at Oyster Point Walls, the Ridgewood Art Institute, and American Fine Art Gallery.
