Chelsie Blair Nunn | They Laugh
people think it’s funny
a farm boy like me would
ever dream of sailing
but I do and I will
I will have a sailboat
on that open water one day
away from Tennessee
the smell of hay and Glade
PlugIns the middle of Appalachia
made me a dreamer I’m not
sorry the first book I ever read
was about getting lost
alone at sea in a small dinghy
I knew it then
salty solitude is mine
to adore under the light of the
moon I choose it I choose
seagulls the smell of fish
I choose the jib sheet in my hands
burning a line across my palm
where they say a psychic
coulda seen my whole life
she did she looked and she saw
the sun making me squint tiny
tears from the corners of my eyes
a farm boy like me would
ever dream of sailing
but I do and I will
I will have a sailboat
on that open water one day
away from Tennessee
the smell of hay and Glade
PlugIns the middle of Appalachia
made me a dreamer I’m not
