There is a quiet before summer
that you can see in older couples.
The way they sit in rocking chairs
with their heads against the backs
looking up.

There is a wisdom to rocking chairs.
Leaning back, staring at the ceiling
because it's easy to be honest when
you are relaxed and don't always need
to look each other in the face.
