ARTIST STATEMENT
BARD uses this abstract flower series to delve into art, art-making, and time. Utilizing dried paint scraps collected over the last two years, BARD gives a glimpse into color themes seen within past pieces, connecting each intimately to her larger body of work. While creating this series she reflected on time and what it can produce, from procrastination to inspiration. Time here is a double-edged sword, where losing work both freed time for creation, and posed basic problems. While the COVID-19 distancing has thus involved both frustration and liberation, these pieces are a product of seizing the moment and finally acting on two goals always in the back of BARD's mind: creating art from her paint scraps and experimenting with resin. The pieces delve into art-making, freezing the act of mixing paint in time, while simultaneously creating something new. Wild and whimsical, each piece embraces and celebrates the many opposites, such as spontaneity and planning, that come together when creating art, as well as those which COVID-19 has presented us with as we embrace our new reality and opportunities as we move forward.
