Volcano Girl
Inspired by Veruca Salt’s “Seether” and “Volcano Girls”
A care-
less word
and an erupt-
ion spill lava into
the blood, heating it
and flushing the cheeks,
your fingers curl, your nails
dig into your palms, words coil
from your mouth like snakes of ash
slithering around my neck, and the plume
dissolves leaving no mark but the stench of sulfur.
