the uninhabitable dress by Dan Sicoli

physicists have reported
on trace evidence of catastrophic events
that occurred in space
billions of years ago

within us
a storm fails
to leave any reward for having survived
no passage
no eternal fountain

tempting gravity
we swing on our summer porches
and remain trivial
breathe nothing more than
tiny particles of primordial leftovers
as the night air gently curls back your hem
the wind of dark matter caressing

Dan Sicoli (Niagara Falls, NY) writes about hope and the fallout that comes from offering it up. He is the author of two poetry chapbooks from Pudding House Publications (Columbus, Ohio), Pagan Supper and the allegories. Currently, he can be found in local dives, saloons and barrelhouses banging on an old Gibson 335 with a weekend rock'n'roll band.
