Emily as Later, Jolted From a Dream
There are giant bones
in Emily’s dreams
& they hold up the giant legs
of giant people
& when they walk, each step
takes away the sharp-edged light
of Ohio
& each direction they choose
becomes nostalgic
for the simple foliage
& that is what Emily does
in her dreams, she plants
cheap bushes where giants
have walked.
That’s beautiful
I tell her all of the time
& she says that she really wishes
that the giants, with their legs
that can ruin everything,
didn’t, each of them, have my face.
No matter, I tell her all of the time,
I think it’s really lovely,
how you frame our world
& have a passion
to tend to everything
that I have tried to destroy.
