Mankind's Huge Mistakes by Farida Samerkhanova
Tired, I was walking home from work.
The air was humid but warm.
I was overstressed and lonely.
I saw a man and a woman standing
At the corner of the street. They looked
So happy and so close together.
Through my mind there went disturbing images of
The Vietnamese war,
The Challenger flight, 73 seconds long,
The fire of Chernobyl,
The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
The Srebrenitsa massacre,
The concentration camps in occupied Europe,
The collapse of Twin Towers and
The murder of the kids of the Russian Tsar.
The real solid truth that makes sense is
The man holding his woman in his arms
In the tranquility of the night.
