Stasis

I told my new co-worker how I
dreamt
my baby was a caterpillar.
It got twisted in my rubber band
bracelet
and fell mangled from my hands.

She thought I meant that I was
pregnant
and I had to tell her,
no.

With my arms folded in a
protective knot
over parts of me swollen and
sore
I had to tell her
no.
