Jocelyn Licwinko

My People

"There is a lack of familiarity I feel within my family. In my work, I illustrate a few family members as still-life objects and partner them with poems. Through poetry, I personify the figures without physically identifying them with people. By representing them in this manner, I objectify my family to convey that lack of familiarity. These are egg tempera, still-life panels juxtaposed on mixed media."
Jocelyn Licwinko is a mixed media artist from West Chester, Pennsylvania. She is currently a senior at the University of Alabama, completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentrations in painting and printmaking as well as a minor in German. While in school, she works two jobs, one being a gallery guard at the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art. Post undergrad, she plans on finding a museum-based job around the United States. A recent achievement of Licwinko is that she was awarded the first grant for the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Her artwork focuses on the perspective of the strings-attached feelings within her own broken family.
