Three of course are emails:
I am not looking forward to our meeting.
I will not have your spreadsheet tomorrow.
In no way am I glad you reached out.
Two are the untruths of sprawling enthusiasm.
For the proposed plan: I can’t wait! (I can).
For the canceled, my most dissembling: no worries.
I braid worries through my rib cage, slide them
On like satin, welcome them to bed.
This last: I missed her while she was at school.
My only yearning is for stillness.
She left and the hush was the soft palm of a mother.
It was a moon-soaked lake and I swam in it.
I didn’t miss her and her voice
Is my second favorite sound. The first is water, running
Down her throat from a blue cup:
Still here, it sings, still yours
