Rhienna Renée Guedry | Day 112: Plums

                      Next door                      grows
a trinity                  neglected:
                                                             plum tree, ficus &
                                                                                                holly
our neighbors
         themselves                 thorny
                                  & lean, stupidly
                                                  attached    to Christmas
the dark-eyed juncos
                                                                  snack on their berries
        while the plum tree
                      ejects &                                           ejects
                                   overrun                                                            by                  bounty
even beasts pass on
           fruit                         rots,                           it ejects,
                                                                                        it trespasses                 onto our
                        driveway,                               all corpses
                                                           under    the      wheels   of
                                   my roller skates,                                                              I fall
                                                                bruise      the    fruit     of
                                                                                              my kneecap
                      on       jammy residue;
                                                                                                          it takes until October
                 to rinse     the gore          clear
my hobbied pettiness
     I curse                                           their lack of
                                                                  care,            like         the upkeep
                             of landscaping is the
                                           problem                                                 & not the
                                                                                       venom & fear of
                                      grievances we’re trained
                to unhear & unsee
