Roz MacLean
from the series All Together Now
Artist Statement
"As someone who does not do well creatively in institutional and hierarchical academic settings, I struggle to make sense of how my nature and my work can be of worth within a capitalist and competitive system. This uncertainty and sense of failure has prompted the inwardly investigative project, 'All Together Now.' In this series of illustrations, I have contemplated Jungian ideas of archetypes and 'shadow' selves that live within myself and everyone, as part of our human natures and beyond our control."
Roz MacLean was born in Vancouver, Canada where she attended Simon Fraser University's Program for the Contemporary Arts as well as the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She works in multiple traditional mediums, with a focus on themes of identity, community, relationship, and the connections between the human and natural world.
