Ode to Kate Winslet's Hand by Scarlett Peterson
as it slid down the well-steamed window
of my first and favorite sex scene. It is
expected that I say someone slid into
her, but it was a movie, he wore a sock
or a jockstrap or something to cover his
dick. A stranger calls me a dyke one day
and I think about her, how I fell asleep
so many nights to the sight of that hand,
that steamed window. How beautiful it is
to know something is fake and still to love it.
How strange to fall in love with a lie dressed
in black and blue lace, twirling the tie
of her gown in mid-air, dropping it
to the floor. Then the sketch, the blue
stone between her breasts a caricature
of love, blue enough to be false. How
long it took me to realize it was her,
not Leo I was watching for.
