Singed by Shairese Pen

I expended all my words
in one gasp of
august air,

lying still
beneath storm clouds
and flashing tongues and
ugly lovers leaving
consolations and casseroles at
the part of me
that trailed away

as you banked on a cocktease
with a broken gas pedal.

Shairese Pen is a poet/teacher from the deep south of Georgia. She's a fan of tea, candy, and metaphors. She's a recluse, but if you happen to catch her in the wild, she'll definitely invite you for a cup of joe.
